Tonight at Pittsburgh Filmmakers

3 new videos! Tonight 5:30pm

Join me Monday evening, February 15th for an screening of Josh Tonies’ new work. He will be screening three shorts.

The first, Frontier Diminishing was described as a “psychoarchitectonic animation” by Jerstin Crosby of Acid Rain Production . In Frontier Diminsihing viewer journeys through an unfamiliar, minimal landscape, full of patterns and rainbows, hauntingly scored with a chip-tune soundtrack.

The second piece is a motion study shot at Coney Island, with dancer/choreographer Ken Leigh Rogers.

The third piece is a travelogue from my recent time in the Pacific Northwest.

Please bring a friend, and your critical eyes. Discussion is welcome and encouraged, the work is fresh and new, and in need of feedback.

Book Invite: Institute of Extraterrestrial Sexuality

I was recently invited to contribute to Suzie Silver & Encyclopedia Destructica’s book project:

THE INSTITUTE OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL SEXUALITY
exploring non-humanoid alien sexuality through art and speculative science

Re-Posted From the I.E.S. Blog

Blog is here

This project asks you to think beyond male and female, beyond queer, beyond any notions of gender, beyond the anthropomorphic to erotic possibilities as vastly varied as the universe itself. What kinds of sentient beings, what types of sexualities, how many erogenous zones and types of erotic pleasure exist out there in the cosmos?

I am excited about what is brewing/fermenting, related to this project. I am currently looking at animation options, and finding a way to publish stills from the animation with prepared text. Very exciting stuff.

Dutch Masters: Now Online

Goedemorgen,
Documentation of my favorite collaborative relationship is online. Dutch Masters is the name of the activity between Matthew D. Wellins and myself. It mostly results in improvised sound recordings and more deliberately considered compositions. We have been working together for the past 4 years; with varied results. Check out the project section of my website to see whats been going down:

Young dutch designer Patrick Schuur created this one and only cassette tape closet.

Acid Rain Production December!!!

Im very pleased to announce that my cut-out animation Frontier Diminishing will be screened as part of Acid Rain Production this month.

acidRain_logoAcid Rain Production is a televised video-art series. It airs on The Peoples Channel and Durham Access Media, cable access channels servicing Orange and Durham Counties in North Carolina. Acid Rain Production is an unique venue for contemporary video work in which a single video art piece loops consistently for one hour, several times a week, for one month, on community-based tv stations that reach over a 100,000 households and businesses in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill region. We hope that through the medium of television we can successfully link new-media artists to the community at large and bring about a better understanding of contemporary issues of artistic practice and social concern. For questions or comments concerning this program please contact Jerstin Crosby at acidraintv@gmail.com

Driftwood @ Fe Gallery

A very small snippet of an evening at Fe Arts Gallery. While my show was up in November, I programmed an evening of Driftwood ( a performance and screening series). Matt and Sarah were a highlight of that evening. Matt making electronic sounds while sarah projected multiple hand painted film loops. The screening also included the remarkable time based work of Tess Allard and Merissa Lombardo.

“1.5 Million” @ the Stella Elkins Tyler Gallery, Wednesday, October 7th

Greetings,

Here is some information about a show I was invited to by fellow artist and friend Corey Antis:

Inspired by a 1970 exhibition by Lucy Lippard, 1.5 Million will feature new works by 71 artists, curators and writers in the Stella Elkins Tyler Gallery, Tyler Hall at Temple University. Focusing on the space between imagination and practice, the exhibition will feature proposals for works that could – but don’t necessarily – exist.  As in the original show, each proposal will be represented by one index card.
